At Fado’ we’re still waiting for Godot...
Honestly, as someone who has long cherished the fabled, “Beef ‘O’” of Dubliner fame, and where it always seemed possible that Samuel Beckett might in fact stop by himself for a nice cold one in order to help him shorten his wait,
I have found it a challenge to leave this safe enclave and venture forth into the wide wide world for good Irish (and by Irish I really mean, “bar”) food. However, venture forth we did…..
Located in one of the cultural byways of Washington, DC that connects Chinatown with the business district, and bridges the “divide” between K-Street and Capitol Hill, Fado’ exudes the Irish hospitality that has become synonymous with the deep wood paneling and iconic Guinness paraphernalia that are often associated with a good Irish pub.

Fado’ offers a full bar, with over 14 beers on draft; more in the bottle, and a full menu of cocktails and spirits, clearly enough to satisfy even the most discriminating patron of such establishments.
And, what self-respecting Irish pub would be complete without serving breakfast throughout the day; for one never knows when one might need to be braced for the day (or early – maybe even very early -- morning) ahead. I don’t just mean the traditional cornbeef and cabbage either (although they serve that too); they have an all-day Irish breakfast that comes with two eggs, Irish sausages, rashers, black and white pudding (or for those who prefer the original, and more colorful description, “blood pudding." My wife grew up on the stuff and craves it like a vampire), mushrooms, tomatoes and pan-fried potato bread. After your breakfast (no matter what time of day that happens to be) and in between pints, you can always order the black and tan brownie with Guinness ice cream.
So, if you need to kill some time while you are waiting for Godot, you might try Fado’ in DC….if, however, you are waiting for Guffman, well that is a different matter entirely.
